Midas Marquez Appreciation Post

The last few days, we have seen Midas Marquez popularity shoot high up as he went from charming Supreme Court spokesperson to internet sensation, as his infamous "laglag" scene gained some much unwarranted media attention. Although this author believes that his reaction was fairly normal, in a country where testosterone levels run high, his reaction has g-a-y written all over it for most of our countrymen. No wonder he got so much flak for his effeminate action.

But enough of the homosexuality allegations. Because this is a Midas Marquez appreciation post, here are some reasons why we like this man:

1. Breaking prejudices and stereotypes: Because he has just proven that even though one is soft-mannered (effeminate, maybe), quite the irony since his favorite Greek mythological character is Hercules, it doesn't exactly translate to being gay. He also happens to be married and has a son and a daughter! Although you know what they say about some gay men getting married and having children. (Glares at Arnel Ignacio and Tita Swarding). I KID.

A Worried Leila de Lima: The Mar Roxas,
aka The Biggest Loser, of 2013?
2. Because his viral video has taken the media's focus off Manny Pacquiao's controversial win (move on, it has been more that two weeks), Gloria Arroyo's arrest (media's stressing the hell out our favorite Tita, sarcasm intended...or not), and Leila de Lima's airtime-hogging press conferences.

3. Because he could be part of a new breed of Philippine politicians, and could pose as Leila de Lima's biggest threat for her much-coveted 2013 senatorial seat.  Let's have a look at the potential voters breakdown for the two. Consider de Lima running under the Liberal Party (Aquino et al.) and Marquez under Lakas-CMD (After all, the SC chief justice is an appointee of Tita Glo. But I must remind you that this is something made up, and quite far from happening.):

The man is doing his job pretty well and his sexuality hasn't directly affected his work. I couldn't care any less about his sexual orientation, and so should you. As Nathan of Misfits (Robert Sheehan) puts it, "Gay, straight, retarded...why do we have to put labels on everything?" With that said, I wish Mr. Marquez nothing but the best for his career.
